Food Gifts [Sep. 22nd, 2009|08:53 pm]

DD swears that Wendy's french fries dipped in a chocolate frosty is a gift from the gods.

When one is preparing for a colonoscopy, any solid food looks wonderful!

I am so going for breakfast after the procedure!

Recipes And Memories [Sep. 6th, 2009|10:09 pm]
Rose
[mood |nostalgicnostalgic]

I have been spending some time trying to get my recipes in order. All of those little pieces of paper with the spatters of ingredients on them that fall out of the cookbooks. The time seemed right to type them all up and print them on nice clean paper.

A tattered, grease stained recipe card fell out of one of the books. The recipe was for zucchini bread printed in my Mother's pristine way. Memories flooded my senses. She loved this time of year because it begins to get cool enough to bake...and she would bake all through the fall and winter. I can smell that zucchini bread baking. She always served it with butter. No margarine by any means! Mom never baked one loaf...more like six at a time. Each loaf was sealed tightly in foil and sent home with a loved one.

I have typed up the zucchini bread recipe to be printed on nice clean paper, but I am not giving up that tattered recipe card. Instead it will live in a special wooden box with other treasures to be passed on.

The silly things I become attached to, huh?

Spa Day [Aug. 23rd, 2009|06:48 pm]

All of the pets are pooped out!

Ginger and Max got their teeth brushed, ears cleaned, bathed, and furminated.

We barely were able to bathe Jet and furminate her. Hard to believe a nine pound kitty can be so ferocious!

Anyhow, everyone is finished being mad at me and DH. They all are shiny, smelling good and resting quietly:)

No Rest For The Wicked [Aug. 22nd, 2009|04:35 pm]

Spent the day doing errands and laundry while DH cleaned all of the ceiling fan blades and light globes. Geez, those things collect a lot of crap!

The results of our efforts are a full refrigerator and cupboards. A happy father because DD and I delivered Starbuck's, an apple fritter and fresh clean clothes. Sparkling clean light globes and ceiling fans...and crisp fresh sheets:)

We will now be going into rest mode for the evening!

Vacation [Aug. 9th, 2009|08:35 pm]
Rose
DH and I have taken a staycation this year. We are cleaning a lot of clutter out of the house...and trying not to bring in more. On Thursday we cleaned out the garage and have found that we have enough for a large donation pickup AND a yard sale. We haven't even cleaned out the cupboards and closets yet! Our plan is to have a yard sale Labor Day weekend and our neighbor will probably join us. If any of you locals are interested just email me at abrhab@yahoo.com and I will send you the address.

Today we visited one of our favorite furry nephews. His Mom is away on vacation and he loved the attention, wet food. treats (just two Mom), and getting the litter box cleaned out. We loved sitting in the hot tub, sauna, and swimming in the pool. Felt so good after all of that lifting, bending and stretching!

Tomorrow is school clothes shopping day. It's hard to believe that the summer has flown by so quickly! DD has selected some interesting classes. First semester she will have Tennis/Badminton, Integrated Algebra/Geometry, Astronomy, Psychology, Health, and Expository Writing. Second semester continues Integrated Algebra/Geometry and brings American Government, Dramatic Literature, Environmental Chemistry, Sociology and Aerobics. She is excited about the upcoming year and that's a good thing. Not just school but logging hours toward her license and getting her braces off early next year. She is a blessing in so many ways. DH and I are very lucky to be raising this wonderful young woman!

DH already received his 2010 birthday gift from me. The Senior PGA Tournament will be in Parker,CO in May 2010. He will be attending all six days. I bought the volunteer package and he will be part of the Medical assist team. Attendance, parking, uniform, commemorative paraphernalia, shuttle to the tournament and food vouchers for a greatly reduced rate. He is bursting with excitement already...and it is on his birthday!

Dad has been approved for Long Term Care Medicaid. Finally they determined that there really was a valid reason why I sold the house so cheap...and that I did not benefit from this. There were many exhibits and real estate analysis involved. Now to settle the estate. Perhaps, I will be able to start that Medical Coding class early next year. I could start now, but I know me and my mind would not be where it should be with the legal crap still unfinished.

Hope this finds all of you healthy, wealthy and happy:)

Making Room [Jul. 30th, 2009|07:55 pm]
Rose
A while back my neighbor and I were talking about clearing the clutter out of our houses in order to make room for wonderful things to enter rour lives. Although my life is full of wonderful, that garage needs some work! Next week DH, and I are taking a couple of days off work to tackle the mess! DD will be around to help also. A pile to keep, a pile to donate and a pile for a yard sale. Next year we would like to remodel the kitchen so maybe we can start a little fund for that with the proceeds. If there is enough time, maybe I can get into some closets and cupboards as well:)

I Must Really Be Smart As My Ass Is So Big [Jul. 25th, 2009|09:36 pm]
Rose
[mood |amusedamused]

Recently, in large French city, a poster featuring a young, thin and tanned woman appeared in the window of a gym. It said:

THIS SUMMER DO YOU WANT TO BE A MERMAID OR A WHALE?

A middle aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded

To Whom It May Concern:

Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans). They have an active sex life, they get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia, the Barren Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia. Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids don't exist. If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean psychoanalysts due to identity crisis. Fish or human? They don't have a sex life because they kill men who get close to them not to mention how could they have sex? Therefore they don't have kids either. Not to mention who wants to get close to a girl who smells like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me; I want to be a whale.

P.S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver and a coffee with my friends. With time we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy. Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, Good gosh, look how smart I am........
